The Walter
Neighborhood Library organized a
special event to celebrate Lunar
New Year on Jan. 23. The Culture
Center of Taipei Economic and
Cultural Office in Houston
"Splendor of Taiwan" was invited
by Deputy Manager Christy Chang,
to join the event which attracted
hundreds of visitors in a sunny
Saturday afternoon.
The library is located on the east
side of the new Chinatown of
Houston. With diverse staffs,
members and visitor, the library
itself is a perfect place to have
culture events. On the beautifully
decorated table where "Splendor of
Taiwan" displayed many flyers and
booklets, there were introductions
on Taiwanese food, Taiwanese tea
culture, and art from Taiwan,
Taiwanese tourism as well as
information about the Culture
Center and the popular program
"Splendor of Taiwan". Visitors
listened eagerly to the
volunteers' explanations with
curiosity and were even happier
when receiving cute, small gifts
from OCAC.
On the side, two yellow lions made
for lion dance and several
colorful Taiwanese puppets, also
provided by the Culture Center,
brightened the space and added a
fancy touch of oriental festivals
to this well-equipped community
library.
Janna Hoglund, the Group Manager
of Walter Library, said this is a
wonderful opportunity to learn
from other cultures. She dearly
thanked Culture Center, the team
members of "Splendor of Taiwan" to
introduce Chinese Culture in
Taiwan. Director Sophia Chuang of
the Culture Center of Taipei
Economic and Cultural Office in
Houston of looked forward to more
cooperation and communication in
the near future. |
