With the Lunar New
Year being around the corner,
Splendor of Taiwan of the Houston
Culture Center went to The Tracy
Gee Community Center on January
26th to introduce the New Year as
well as the tea culture of Taiwan.
Over 30 attendees there also got
the chance enjoying the hot tea
provided by the tea master, and
the famous Taiwanese pineapple
cakes.
The volunteer first introduced the
background of Lunar New Year and
some stories from ancient time.
With the vivid images of the
informative slide show, all of the
attendees felt amazed by the
legends of "Nien". Then the
general introduction provided many
interesting details about
firecrackers, red envelopes and
the big dinner on New Year's Eve.
The volunteer also explained why
and how Taiwanese have rice cake,
dumplings, fish, whole chicken
prepared on the table for Lunar
New Year, and even fruits like
pineapple or orange have their own
meanings during this period of
time !
When tea masters prepared the tea,
some attendees took their cell
phones to record it. They were
curious about the tea and each
step of the preparation. They
later found both of the tea and
pineapple cakes wonderful. And the
Deputy Director Natalie Li of The
Culture Center toasted everyone
with the tasty Taiwanese tea and
represent Director, Ms. Chuang to
wish all a happy lunar new year!
There were also lots of
discussions between volunteers and
attendees, the attendees in the
end happily thanked the Houston
Culture Center and Splendor of
Taiwan for this great and fun
experience! |
