As one of the Golden Puppet Show characters, guai lao zi or the Weird Old Man has a humorous personality and a warm heart. The Weird OId Man is forever sixty three years old and has the martial arts abilities: Sound of the Magic Piano and Divine Horns. His weapon is called the “Magic Sound”. There are three stages of the Weird Old Man’s “Magic Sound”. Furthermore, he has a catchphrase “now you know”, which in Taiwanese is “jin ma li jia zhai”. Because of his old age, he really likes it when his friends call him big brother, or nissan in Japanese. Together with Erjia and Liusan, they are the earliest trio group for the puppet show, in Taiwanese they are known as “san kou zu”. Weird Laozi lives in the Wutong (Wútóng) Forest and is famous far and wide for his knowledge of Qihuang (Qíhuáng), ancient chinese medicine. Not only did he have excellent medical skills, he was also good at playing the piano, so he was known as the “Miracle Doctor and the Demonic Qin”. Because he tamed the primitive beast Black King Kong with a song called “ The orangutan knows my heart”, the little King Kong admired him and became a lifelong friend of his. Later, Guai Laozi got acquainted with Liu San and Erjia because of rescuing the knights from the Central Plains, and became good friends. Together, they helped the main character Shi Yanwen (Shǐyànwén) solve his problems, find the jade seal, solve the danger of the king, eliminate evil, and became the backing of the righteous path.
